Get Angry is a painting series inspired by the numerous outbreaks of protests and revolutions in 2011. From Tahrir Sq to Wall St, from London to Troy Davis, from Slutwalk to the demand for gay marriage rights. This series seeks to express the passion and anger that fuels a protester’s spirit to fight back against injustice. Whether I support a particular cause or not, I support and am deeply inspired by the courage, will, and feeling of having nothing left to lose but to attempt to force change.
Each portrait in this series uses gold paint. Inspired by Gustav Kilmt’s gold paintings, I wanted the series to have a color cohesion and timeless richness from the golden color. Particular paintings such as “The Kiss” and “Judith”, are direct renditions of Klimt’s pieces. In “The Kiss”, I wanted to express protest in the form of simple love.
Each piece depicts a particular movement or sentiment behind a movement. These paintings aim to be snapshots of history. They aim to capture the emotion that moves civilians to rebel.
